Some food for thought, an unprecedented cyber incident, and in the “amazing is not a synonym for good” department…
Today, I’m going to row into the nearby marina to fill four jerrycans with water. It’s not a task that fills me with joy.
Hmm, some of you might say, “Doesn’t he have a watermaker?” and, as it happens, I do. So, why am I rowing into a marina to spend $0.15 a gallon for water?
The answer is sorta/kinda embarrassing because I’ve yet to install said watermaker into the Islander.
It’s all about the fiddly shit. You know, stuff like where to install it? Maybe I should build another watermaker that produces less water but runs on 12V? Should I add another membrane so I can make more water? The list goes on and on and on…
Part of the problem is, in my heart of hearts, I know there’s a perfect place to install the beast but only God and the cat know where it is and they’re not talking. Throw in that with so much time wasted looking for the perfect spot, a million other questions spawned by the perfection trap jump to mind.
It’s making me sorta/kinda insane.
I’m pretty sure that I could sell my currently uninstalled watermaker for more than the cost of building a 12V watermaker (like this one) but still it is really nice to make 20 gallons an hour vs 10, but I’d probably need to add a solar panel and another battery to carry the load. Of course, there’s still the whole “where do I install the 12V system” and that is some serious fiddly shit as well.
So it does go…
