I just read that there’s a new catamaran design coming soon, the Van Cat 25.
It’s small, hopefully affordable, and has all the room a couple might need to head off into the sunset.
Better yet, it’s not a stinking condomaran.
Of course, I’m old enough to remember when under 30-foot cats were the rule rather than the exception. For instance, who could forget the Prout Sirocco?
Or there’s the Heavenly Twins.
Both of which can still be found floating right-side up and able to carry you wherever you want to go.
Another cat I have a lot of respect for is Bernd Kohler’s KD860 and the KD860Ω variant…
Anyway, something to think about.
I would add the Richard Wood’s Budget Ocean Cruiser and Sagitta to the mix of under 30 Cats.
Lets not forget the humble Diamond 24/26, the plywood marvel fom the late 60s. I may go as far as saying its better looking.

The Holt design was the Yachting World Diamond monohull, a BlackSoo for home builders!
I recently came across the Diamond 24 design in the the Boatdesign.net forum! It’s really quite an attractive boat, isn’t it. Do you know if plans are still available anywhere? Though as I type this I imagine it’s pretty dated at this point. Catamaran hull design has come a long way in the last 40-50 years.
I posted it over there. No, I am not aware of any drawings being available for the Diamond. My enquiries some years ago came up with nothing. Something from Bernard would probably as close as it comes, he seems to be brave enough to use reverse sheer, which far too many find objectionable.
