a $2000 propulsion system…

Some logic of note, a common-sensical letter and in the “did someone just say lifeboats?” department…

I just saw that the Yanmar SDe7 Electric sail drive (the cheap one) has a price tag of $20k. Which I’m sure you all know is too fucking high for me to even consider…

So, just how low can I put together a VolksCruiser propulsion system that’s affordable for someone who works for a living?

Now, when I say VolksCruiser, I can make some assumptions. For instance, with the current high price of fuel, wind is the preferred motive force to get your boat on passage. Which relegates a propulsion system for getting in and out of tight places, docking, and short hops on windless days.

Very short hops.

The reality is that all passages are made under sail and, if you think about it, this is a lot more doable than most assume. Well, providing you have a reasonable sailing skill set and a bit of patience. But, more on that later…

Just for giggles, let’s see if we can put together a reasonable propulsion system for 10% of what the cheap Yanmar electric sail drive goes for.

Yeah, a $2000 propulsion system. More on how it goes together in the next post…
