You can’t ever have too many clamps. Whether you’re building a boat, guitar, or apparently, skateboards. The problem, of course, is that for those of us boat-bound folks, stowage for clamps can be be, at best, problematic. One area of clamping tech that makes sense is using vacuum bags. Sadly, in my experience, using vacuum to clamp or laminate stuff has mostly been overshadowed by resin infusion which, while being useful, is overkill and over complicated for almost all of the jobs I want to do.
Oar blades, for instance. I can’t think of anything more needful than a simple way to laminate and shape oar blades than vacuum bagging. Oar blades have a lot in common with skateboards as it happens.
Which brings us to Roarockit—a company that builds skateboards and sells vacuum bagging kits.
How cool is that? Everything you need to put together a couple of shaped oar blades and it hardly takes up any room.
Even better, there’s a plethora of excellent tutorials to show you how to do stuff.
Color me impressed. The fact is I can see myself using this system to build parts for self-steering gears, a 12-string guitar I have in my head, and all sorts of nautical gingerbread decor.
