The other day I saw that someone was considering adapting a Westerly Centaur over to junk rig. It got me thinking…
Would I do it?
My knee jerk answer would be if the Centaur was in need of a new rig (no mast or sails) I’d certainly consider going junk. That said, I’m pretty sure I’d consider doing something quite a bit different than what passes these days for a standard junk rig. But, more on what I’d do come Monday…
That’s just shy of 400 square feet….. one big ole junk sail. I sewed up a 435 square foot chinese lugsail of polytarp and considered it ungainly. Just riffin but I’d consider a lower aspect Reddish type junk sail, with shorter mast and controllable by euphroe, with big ass mizzen, maybe a sprit. Or add a boomkin and split the rig into two lugsails. Each to their own.
