I’ve always been enamored of the sheer simpleness of the Moitessier-style wind vane self-steering gear. Especially as exhibited at its evolutionary peak on the Trismus design.

That said, it’s a little less simple when used with an auxiliary rudder but if you know of a less complicated self-steering gear, I’d love to hear about it.

Complete plans are on the Trismus site so if you’re looking for a self-steering gear that you can build for around a hundred bucks, you know where to go.
