worst case scenarios…

A canary in a coal mine, an analogy of note, and in the “timely advice” department…

I’ve always leaned towards the glass is half full, things mostly work out, and people’s better natures will manifest when needful. That said, I still factor in worst case scenarios because, you know, shit happens.

For instance, the current world situation is busting what passes for cruising budgets and it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets any better. Just yesterday, we noticed that the $50 champagne we used to drink in France is selling for…

Worst case scenario of champagne that we'd pay $50 in France circa 1980s

Not that we drink anymore but seeing that price just illustrates how insane prices are these days. Tomatoes are more a budget buster when they’re $5-$6 a pound.

Then there’s gas and diesel…

Which is an ongoing worst case scenario but I may be going into the Yuloh build business as it shows great growth potential.

Meanwhile, Yann isn’t going to let sculling 80 miles ruin his day…

  1. I am astonished Yann got out (though not yet) unmolested. Perhaps the Canadians are more sympathetic to a guy who is actively trying to leave.

I think there was a French guy who sculled across the Atlantic a few years back (you may have posted it), I think the French call them Gondolas, but not the Italian sort.
