Gestapo cosplay, a Mother’s day song, and in the “not really surprised” department… With apologies to Mom and Frank Zappa, what we really need in the VolksCruising world is a whole lot more invention rather than the same old same. “The mother of invention is necessity” I’ll be the first to admit that while old …
Obvious, but still needs to be said, a take on the subject of Zen, and in the “This looks like fun!” department… Not your run of the mill voyage. There’s more over at Ella in the Arctic to check out.
An excellent point, just plain insanity, and a needful read … Yesterday, I heard that Duolingo was firing staff and replacing them with AI. As it happens, I’ve recently been trying to improve my Spanish and not enjoying the Duolingo format at all. So, I’ve been looking for another system that would work. That said, …
A vengeful whale spirit, backpackers beware, and in the “Yep, Covid is still around” department… The tale of the two German backpackers got me thinking how I, as a sailor, would handle a world where it’s required to have a detailed sailing itinerary. Perplexing thoughts indeed. For instance, I never say that I’m sailing to …
An excellent post, how to deal with criminal politicians, and in the “a lot of this going around” department… So, here’s a first. Someone asked me why I start each post with three links to stuff in the news. As it happens, it’s a surprise as no one has ever asked that before. Which is …
Something about Amtrak, a very good point, and Elie Mystal saying the needful… This brought a smile… However, it did get me thinking about how it’s well past time to see some sort of ground swell against Elon Musk’s other business, Starlink. Sure, I see how a lot of cruisers feel that it’s very important …
Some interesting NOAA/Bill Nye news, a scary question, and another case of sanewashing… For the last couple of years, Starlink has become a popular solution for cruisers as a way to keep online. We considered it mostly for the ability to have access to weather reports and business emails when in the middle of nowhere. …
An excellent read, not just another crypto scam, and just in case you haven’t been paying attention lately… So, yeah, yesterday’s truckload of excrement sure did hit those rotating blades and it’s time to rethink our current cruising plans. All of a sudden, a lot of countries will not be as welcoming to those flying …
EBM with a $400 million dollar self deal, hurtling becomes a scary word, and in the “It’s not just eggs” department… So, as it happens, I need a bunch of stainless screws, bolts and nuts. Hey, I live on a boat and I always seem to need a bunch of stainless screws, bolts, and nuts …
Somewhat nervous making, an accessible future within our reach, and in the “the kind of news we need more of” department… We finally got around to getting our FCC radio station license for the Islander. It’s a fairly simple exercise with the only issue is we’re now $185 poorer but, on the plus side, we …
