The tale of the two German backpackers got me thinking how I, as a sailor, would handle a world where it’s required to have a detailed sailing itinerary. Perplexing thoughts indeed.
For instance, I never say that I’m sailing to St Thomas but always use towards because shit happens.
Maybe there won’t be wind, the motor doesn’t work, or I find myself in an inter-dimensional portal and find myself in Barsoom. Like I said, on a boat, shit can happen.
There’s also the fact that, being a sailor, I’m a bit superstitious. Just assuming I’m going to St Thomas can jinx the voyage big time.
On the other hand, given the current world situation, Barsoom might actually be an improved landfall. I’ve heard some good things about Dejah Thoris…
