Gestapo cosplay, a Mother’s day song, and in the “not really surprised” department…
With apologies to Mom and Frank Zappa, what we really need in the VolksCruising world is a whole lot more invention rather than the same old same.
“The mother of invention is necessity”
I’ll be the first to admit that while old school works, we’d all be a lot better with affordable, better, and sustainable improvements in the cruising world. Of course, you don’t see a lot of that going around these days.
It’s like there’s no real necessity to invent because we’re all spoiled by an abundance of stuff and money to throw at problems. Plus, I’ll just point out that we’re all fairly lazy, greedy and looking for a big payoff. None of those things tend to birth good design.
I was lucky that I had Victor Papanek for a teacher/mentor and his thoughts on design opened my eyes on a lot of levels. Our current intercourse with the real world is held at a distance and most design is for a fantasy world that doesn’t really exist.
The problem is that the real world is still around and it’s about to become very real and very up close and personal all too soon. You might say necessity is just around the corner and, hopefully, invention is waiting in the wings…
