adaptive to a point…

A birthday of note, some sense being made, and in the “something to keep in mind” department…

I’ll admit that the current state of people able to ignore the multitude of out-of-control-runaway-trains set to collide with us all is some kind of impressive. Seriously, business as usual in dire times is obviously a talent I do not have.

On some level, I have to admire it.

Years of living in the Caribbean have taught me that one can never underestimate people’s ability to ignore impending doom. Which, when you consider how some folks won’t do a 30-mile passage without perfect conditions and a buddy boat, certainly raises some questions.

Apparently, we’re very good at adapting. Life gets worse and we adapt. Prices go up and we adapt. We’re so good at adapting now that it has become a super power.

Problematic, as we’re all wired for fight or flight. The new super power of adaption short circuits our ingrained survival response.

Fight or flight.

Anyway, just something to think about during the 2025 “H” season…

  1. I see fight or flight as a reactionary instinctive moment in time. Adaptation is living with the possible long term effects of such reaction………..or the lack of.

Being adapted to life as a tight-wad when necessary is a boon, and when fully embraced as a lifestyle can be enriching in other ways. YMMV
