a bit of creative frugality…

A needful read, EBM asks a question, and in the “anticipatory nature to fascism” department …

Some days I just want to scream.

One of the not needful at the moment projects on my list for the Islander is installing a mini-bowsprit or ‘prod’ to make flying a gennaker or spinnaker simpler. Of course, I could buy an off the shelf unit but what fun would that be?

I did come across a nifty deck mount from Colligo that’s very cool but at $119 a pop (you need two) is way more than this poor boy is willing to spend.

Lucky for me, you can do the same thing with four U-bolts for a total cost of around $60. bucks. Sure the saddle for the pole to rest on is neat but if I wanted one I could fabricate it with some fiberglass scraps and epoxy for nearly nothing having the pole to use as a mold.

Anyway, there is almost always a simple work around to paying high prices and you might even come up with something even better going the creative frugality route.

Just sayin’…
