a sign for the times…

A needful read, an accomplishment of note, and in the “dropped hard & lost” department…

This morning greeted me with yet another charter-connected business that was pulling up stakes and leaving. It reminded me of a sign from Seattle in bygone ages…

“Will the Last Person Leaving SEATTLE — Turn Out the Lights”

Apparently, last time I heard, the lights continue in Seattle. That said, as Boeing repeats it spiral down the ceramic bowl, there yet may be a time that sign pops up again.

While there’s no floating billboards down here in America’s paradise, it does convey a mental picture…

“Will the Last Person Leaving the USVI — Turn Out the Lights”

Fact is, there are a lot of reasons folks are leaving. For starters, being a place that people do not want to visit and those who do can no longer afford to, makes it fairly problematic. You know, the whole downside of being a pariah country makes it a hard-to-sell tourist destination.

There are a bunch of other reasons that the charter industry is about to fall on hard times but, they mostly involve greed and a general loss of vision. In other words, it’s become just about the money.

Catamaran Sol Seeker

We’ll continue to fight the good fight and beaver away doing it old school providing a service that we get a lot of satisfaction from. For us at least, selling fun has always been our prime directive.

So it goes…

  1. there is a quote:

    1. Hey Ian,
That would be sorta like a screen door on a submarine. But no, it is not a concertina door. Still a front facing door on a sailboat is sorta/kinda dumb. Welcome to the world of condomarans.

      1. Crikey, I wonder how that boat trims with that lounging area full of water and how long it takes to drain once the cushions block it?

It is what it is i guess, made for a purpose, at least the door has a decent looking gasket and compression handles. If it was an aft cockpit, i would have almost zero issues!
