Some signs of the times, a timely podcast, and Triumph of the Will directed by Homer Simpson…
A textbook example of everything you need in 30 feet is the Dufour Arpege…

There’s a great article in Voile with some excellent pictures about the Arpege that is well worth reading. The pictures show just how one can have a wonderful cruising boat of the plastic classic that will impress anyone who sees it.
Sure, the article is in French. That being the case, I’ll point out that the pictures alone are well worth a visit and that google translate can translate the article if you feel the need to get the full story.
So, there you have it, everything you need in 30 feet and it pretty much applies to any 30-footer classic plastic you come across.
It will go upwind far better and in more comfort than the usual boat with the double-cruncher and en-suite heads under the cockpit.
But im told, gentleman do not sail to windward…….
