I spent a good portion of yesterday making copious amounts of sawdust as I whittled the laminated wood into something that looks like a self-steering gear. There’s a lot to be said for an angle grinder and a flapper sanding disc.
Talk about a mess.
Honestly, the best part of the day was jumping overboard for the dust monster to human transformation. There are worse jobs than building stuff in your cockpit in the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, in the real world, I see that my decision to not put my hard earned money into a Starlink system for the boat was spot on. Apparently there will be much gnashing of teeth for those who chose to support/trust Elon Musk. Sure, I’ll miss not having access to hot and cold running internet (spelled films and Jeopardy) but, when all is said and done, it just means I get to read more.
Today’s project is some fine tuning of the self-steering rudder as well as beginning the trim tab which won’t be anywhere near as messy as the flap disc follies.
