One of my least favorite parts of a new boat is dealing with the sail end of the task list. Whether fixing old sails, buying new ones, or searching out good used ones it’s just a big pain in the ass from where I’m sitting.
Of course, dealing with what passes for competence in the sail-making business is not unlike finding a cement block and banging your head against it while hoping to get to the point where you pass out. Which is not to say that there are no good sail lofts but the ones that are have a lot in common with unicorns.
So, while I wait to see what quotes for a new main look like, I’m scurrying through the various used sail vendors looking for a good sail with my name on it at a price that I consider affordable.
In the meantime, there’s no shortage of things I need to do but working out the logistics is almost as bad as dealing with sail lofts and I could use a few aspirin
I’ll let you know how it goes on the sail front when I make a decision.
