the state of things…

I just read about yet another marina closing down to become some sort of up-market lifestyle condo project. Progress right?

My first thought was where were the five hundred boats supposed to go in an area where there are two or three-year waiting lists for a marina slip. My second thought was there would be some great deals on good boats in the offing as the boat owners would be caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place.

Sadly most of the great deals I see on boats these days involve that rock and a hard place where there’s no room in marinas or when there is it’s just too frelling expensive for most. This is something you might want to keep in mind because it’s only going to get worse in the not-too-distant future.

This brings us to a sad fact…

The whole sailing lifestyle as we know it is going the way of the Dodo.

So, what’s a poor boy going to do?

More on the subject up next…

  1. Is small scale seafaring doomed? Encountering a autonomous, AI driven submarine drone in mid-ocean is not implausible either.
