I have never bought a new car either but I have a slightly adjusted thought recently. A couple old steel bikes both had the derailleur attachment point bend, an essential part of the frame. Can it be repaired, questionable. Also I love my Yanmar 2QM20 (note the Q) but am hunting a small part for the cooling system that, ahem, broke off. Finding the right balance is tricky.
Love it. I've never owned a new car. I buy good used ones and maintain them, and have only called a tow truck maybe 3 times in my life.
