a simple, elegant, and cheap solution…

Far too often we throw silly money at a problem when there’s a simple and cheap solution just waiting to be found.

  1. Or, just leave that same tackle rigged as a cunningham like we've been doing for a hundred years and avoid the fuss of hooking and unhooking it on each hoist. It also has the added benefit of letting the friction in the luff slides and the reeving of the halyard work in our favour, as we are tensioning against it and not trying to overcome it.

On a lug rig, similarly, we hoist on as light a tackle as possible and then use a more advantageous purchase to haul the foot down, right?
