the upside of failure…

A conversation of interest, some thoughts on reflection pool lies, and something from the “golden bootstraps” department…

So, if you haven’t been following the R2AK the $10K was won by team Northbound Nutters but, the more interesting results are still to come. For me, second place and those steak knives would have been my goal. Then, there’s the side bets, such as $1000 dollars for the first boat of 20-feet or less that finishes the race.

Face it, just finishing in a twenty-foot or less boat is a win just about anyway you look at it. Whether you’re sailing, rowing or paddling, you really have to be on your “A” game just to get to the finish line.

Those are the folks I’d love to talk to and pick their brains. How do you compete and finish when you and everyone else knows that winning is not an option. Where failure is the foregone conclusion?

So, I’ll be watching the results as they come in. Because often, the upside of failure is a lot more interesting than just winning.

  1. Best get building that Loooong Micro.

Core Sound 20 Mk3? Im not up to speed on the latest mini-multihulls, surely an old F20 or Tornado cat would be in with a chance?

A bloke took part some events ago on a SUP, has he finished yet? He should get a prize too.
