Some black & white history, a happy fish story, and about our new reality…
So, it’s Black Friday and I’m not buying anything at all. Sure there are any number of things I want but none that I actually need. Of course, the things I actually need never seem to be on anyone’s Cyber come-ons. The best budget advice I’ve received is that the best way to save money is to quit buying stuff.
My scant list of needs pretty much boil down to a dozen or so friction rings, a few blocks, and a plethora of lure-making bits and bobs.
Sure, I could get a killer Black Friday deal on a new set of electric self-tailing winches but I take pride that most of the winches aboard are fifty years old just like the Islander. By the way, none of which are self-tailing. Plus, I still see electric winches on boats to be problematic at best and dangerous at worst.
If you need a bigger more powerful winch it’s just natures way of telling you to get a smaller boat…
I might need a two burner alcohol stove if I decide to re-power with electric propulsion. My thinking is it would be both a cost and safety issue. Still, I’ve got a 6HP outboard and I’d prefer the engine space for other uses.
You might say I have a cunning plan…
