A conversation of note, some solar stuff, and in the “Mom & Pop economy” department…
I was checking out some news coming from the Paris Salon Nautique and was greatly impressed by this auxiliary electric propulsion system from the Temo folks.
Yeah, I know, it’s just a trolling motor on steroids.

That said, it makes a lot of sense for a cruising sailboats auxiliary propulsion system. Temo’s proposed 3KW Outpod has more than enough oomph to deliver what I desire in a motor that will only be used to get around an anchorage or the very rare occasion when I need to dock somewhere.
Remember we’re talking auxiliary.
Since I’d only use it for less than an hour on occasion it would not require a massive expensive battery bank either. Power storage being a factor.
Tom Colvin’s 1HP per ton rule says I need just under 7HP. My personal experience tells me I could get by with a lot less. Maybe even half.
I’m sure that the Temo will be too expensive for my tastes. Still, everything these days is too expensive…
Welcome to my world.

How do you think something like this compares to the Torqeedo line of electric outboards?
The Temo is different as it seems to be designed for a sailboat. Some excellent thinking in the process.
