A thing I missed, this is very interesting, and in the “drop in a bucket” department…
So, apparently, the orange felon has discovered the word affordable. Which one can combine with that other word, groceries, to form the phrase ‘affordable groceries’. Sadly, it’s more than obvious that he’s clueless about what the phrase actually means.
For a lot of folks on boats it’s all about affordability. Sure there are folks with more money than others but when the bills come due even the rich ones scream bloody murder. I know this from personal experience as I’ve worked in the marine trades and taken a lot of shit about the cost of things.
The funny thing is that for the most part, cruisers of modest means are much less volatile when confronted with their bills. Of course, they also tend to only spend what they have to and are more of the gritting of teeth persuasion.
But, yeah, affordability for most of us, whether in groceries, marine gear, or services, is the main factor between successful cruising and disaster.
Offhand, I think the most important financial skills required for non-problematic cruising are the ability to know what one can afford and stick to a budget based on reality.
That said, with the felon in charge it’s going to take some serious Gris-Gris and out of the box cunning to survive the coming economic shit storm that’s coming our way.
Now, next up for the word of the day will be frugality…
