a dinghy dilemma…

Some notes on tourism, murder in the Caribbean, and in the “so much for the war on cancer” department…

Another day and another dinghy dilemma or two.

For starters, I just feel like building a dinghy so I can sell the two I currently have. Not exactly the normal way to downsize but I really want a lighter, smaller, less tippy dinghy that will fit on the foredeck. My current small dinghy is too heavy and the lighter/longer dinghy does not fit on deck.

My usual go-to dinghy design in the small, light, and stable zone is Phil Bolger’s Tortoise. A dinghy design I’ve oft written about in the past.

The other day, while watching a new Atom Voyager video, it occurred to me that James Baldwin had done a small, Tortoise-sized pram design that might be just the thing. A quick search and there was even an excellent Atom Voyager video on the beast…

There’s also a great (spelled foolproof) set of step by step building directions with some excellent photos on the process.

Face it. It’s a cool boat.

That said, I’m not sure which of these boats Tortoise, Atom 6.5 or Eko-Youyou I’ll be building. I’ll let you know what and how when I do.

So it does go…

    1. I remember you anchoring behind us in St Croix and admired your Nymph at the time. I’ve always thought that Phil’s Nymph design is the prettiest result possible with two sheets of plywood.
