A letter worth reading, some interesting science, and in the “a woman with a plan” department…
Just about everyday I find myself confronted with new gear that someone wants me to buy that I don’t need. Today it was Sailsense.
I’ll admit, at first look the idea of an automatic logging system seems attractive. Of course it does. I’m lazy and my handwriting, for most folks, is nigh on unreadable. Hell, I even have trouble reading it the next day. Some doctors are said to envy my penmanship!
But still…
A quick look at the pricing of said system shows it’s way too expensive for this poor boy to even consider. Plus, while the idea of an automatic log is enticing, the physical entries in a real logbook is part and parcel of watch keeping and something you need to do anyway.
Yachting Monthly has an excellent article on how to make your own log book that you might want to check out.
One suggestion to bring your log into the current century is that Zoleo or Spot both sell satellite communication devices with tracking that would enhance your log taking for around $150. Which, in my opinion, is a much better solution/ investment than something like Sailsense.
